Acellent's SMART Layer® sensor networks are used in the paper manufacturing process to provide real-time data on nip loading profiles during operation. This results in improved efficacy, increased reliability, streamlines the process, and reduces costs. In particular, Valmet's iRoll incorporates Acellent's patented technology to monitor covered rolls used in paper, board, pulp, and/or tissue production machines. The built-in sensor network allows the roll itself to sense cross-machine nip linear load as well as sheet properties, such as the tension and the parent roll hardness profile. The illustration below shows an example of a roll that has been outfitted with Acellent's SMART Layer sensors for measuring nip load profiles.
