Acellent's Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems find wide application in the energy industry, monitoring the degradation of structures that can affect the performance of energy-generation and -storage platforms. Specific examples include wind turbines, hydrogen tanks, and batteries.
It is even possible to manufacture "intelligent multifunctional composites", which are lightweight, energy-efficient, and high-performance, despite having significantly lowered maintenance costs. An example of "intelligent multifunctional composites" would be a composite material containing a structurally-integrated battery and SHM technology built right in to monitor both the health of the battery and the integrity of the structural material.
